Big Island Honda - Hilo is committed to telling you both sides of the story. So while, we usually offer insight and perspective on new Honda models, ingenious safety developments, awards and accolades, advancements in green technology and the Japanese automaker's many philanthropic efforts and giveaways - today we're going to talk about the recall Honda just announced for select 2005-2010 four-cylinder Honda Accord CR-V crossovers and 2005-2008 Honda Elements.
In total, the recall affects roughly 1.5-million autos in the U.S. The issue at large is potential damage to the secondary shaft bearing of the affected vehicle's automatic transmission from fast, forceful shifting employed when trying to get free from mud or snow. Side effects of damage include engine stalling of difficulty getting into park.
In their press release, Honda writes, "Honda is announcing this recall to encourage all owners of affected vehicles to take their vehicles to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive notification of this recall from Honda."1 Honda will begin mailing official recall notifications at the end of the month.
To learn if your Honda Accord CR-V or Element is one of the models being recalled before month's end, you can always visit www.recalls.honda.com or call 800.999.1009 (option 4).
